WEEK ONE: Peek-A-Mew
If you follow charts, I’ve got that for you. If you like patterns, I’ve got that for you too! If you are new to C2C crocheting and would like to follow along with me on a couple of the squares, I’ve included the link to get over to my YouTube Channel video for this square.
I want to make this easy for you to learn, so novice or pro, you will end up with a wonderful blanket celebrating my favorite furry friends… CATS!
Don’t forget to post pictures of your finished squares using the hashtag for this crochet-a-long on social media:
#CatghanCAL2019
I can’t wait to see your finished cats, and eventually, your finished blankets too!
This pattern was lovingly tested by the wonderful crocheters over on the Facebook Group: CAL – Crochet A Long. Stop by, join the group, and crochet with us!
While this Catghan CAL posts will always be here for free on my blog, for convenience, I’ve also created one giant PDF file (over 50 pages!) for those who would like to purchase a copy of all the files together in one place. This file will also include how to finish the blanket by joining the squares together and creating a border too. No searching through posts necessary. Plus, it’s over there now, should you want to work ahead of the group rather than wait for each week’s new square. You can purchase this pattern for a small fee here on Ravelry.

Janelle
Finished my first square. So excited for all the different cat squares!
Your video tutorial is awesome! This is my first graph-ghan.
JHWinter
That’s awesome Janelle! I’m so glad the video helped! I have another ready to go for Week #2. My hope is that after working through two squares together, it’ll be easy-peasy to get the squares done 🙂
Lois
Please add me to the list. Thanks
JHWinter
All set! 🙂

Where do I find the second pattern
JHWinter
Hi Bonnie! Here it is, the square for Week #2: Mouse Watching. http://blog.jhwinter.com/catghan-cal-week-2-mouse-watching/

Hi
C2C crocheting newbie here. I’m wanting to do this project with cotton yarn that calls for a 4mm hook. If I do this, is it only the final size of the finished product that is affected? Thanks!
JHWinter
Hi Sharon, that’s exactly right! If you use a thicker yarn like cotton and a slightly smaller hook like the 4mm, you may end up right around the same size! But generally speaking, thicker yarns will make the squares larger, and thinner yarns, smaller. Just make sure to be consistent. Sounds like you are planning to do the full blanket in cotton yarn though, so you should be just fine. Happy crocheting!

Hi!
I am not a C2C fan. I would like to do this as one piece in SC. Will the blocks be available for a while after the CAL is over or do I need to try to save the block week to week? I
JHWinter
The blocks will always remain available on my blog for free. You can purchase the full pattern as another option over on my Ravelry or Etsy pages, if you want to save them as one big PDF. The links for both are in my post 🙂
Jana
I’ve not been able to open the blog to the free pattern spot. I know you made it years ago, is it still available for free? If so can you send me a linK please.
Thanks
JHWinter
My apologies! My blog’s security service had not reupped so my blog and website went down for a bit. Everything should be accessible now with full security on. Thank you so much for your patience. Please let me know if you have any questions as you work through the pattern. Have a wonderful night!
Caroline van Rijnberk
Is it difficult to do it in normal stitches, saw onr this evening, not sure how many rows needed, guess for s2 only 1 row??
JHWinter
Hi Caroline! I do have one or two crocheters who are making the catghan using single crochet. This was a message from FB from one of them as to how to do that: “for every square I do two sc. so say it’s 3 green, 2 blue squares. I’ll do 6sc green, 4sc blue. When I reach the end of the row I turn and repeat the same colors(so 2sc and 2 rows per square). The count for these squares is 20 squares so mine end up being 40 sc across. I’m not sure how they compare size wise to the c2c squares though” I hope that helps! If you want to see how hers are coming out, you can find her post here. I think they look just as cute!
michelle
i am making a cat c2c afghan square at the the decreasing part do u slip stitch into the block or do u just turn ur work and go in the other direction, do u chain up 6, im pretty stuck at the decreasing part,
JHWinter
Hi Michelle! I would love for you to take a look at the YouTube video I made working through Peek-A-Mew from start to finish 🙂 You want to go to about 1:04 in the time and that is where I get to the part where I begin decreasing. 🙂 I hope this helps! If not, let me know, and I will try to write out the instructions for you here. Have fun with the Catghan!

I don’t know how to do c2c so I took one of the graphs and using granny square I made an Afghan for my granddaughters friend for her high school graduation. It came out beautiful.
JHWinter
I would love to see that! Can you send me a picture? That sounds magnificent! jhwinterauthor@gmail.com

How am I able to look at all the free patterns. I have signed up for the newsletter, but can’t get past any locked screens?

Hi there! Please make sure that your browser allows “cookies” so that it saves the information that you put it and recognizes that you’ve subscribed. That is usually the fix 😉
