This pattern is no-sew apart from the optional water spout on his little head. If you decide to crochet yours with acrylic yarn or cotton like I did, the size is perfect for making your little whale into a keychain or ornament!

The Basic Stitches you’ll be Learning

Here is a list of what stitches you’ll learn as an absolute beginner to amigurumi. Basic Amigurumi Stitches:

  • Magic Ring
  • Double Magic Ring
  • Increase
  • Slip Stitch
  • Slip Knot
  • Half Double Crochet
  • Double Crochet
  • Working in the Back Loops Only (BLO)
  • Fastening Off
  • Sewing in Ends/Tails
  • Attaching Safety Eyes
  • Stuffing
  • Changing Colors in the Round

Here we have the tutorial for right-handed crocheters followed by one for left-handed crocheters that will step-by-step you through the entire pattern from start to finish. I hope you’ll enjoy walking through each step or using the time stamps to skip ahead if you are a seasoned crocheter!

Materials Needed:

  • Crochet Hook: 6-7mm for blanket yarn; 3-4mm for acrylic or cotton yarn

  • Safety Eves: 1 pair – 12mm (blanket yarn whale) or 8mm (cotton/acrylic)
