What I am Working On: Theodore and the Enchanted Bookstore, Book Two

Getting My Supplies Out and Inspiration as I Color the Cover for Theodore Book Two!

Theodore the Corgi is at it again, and I’m right there to breathe life to his escapades in Book Two of The Enchanted Bookstore series by K. Kibbee!

Theodore.CoverWith Theodore and the Enchanted Bookstore: Tale of the Spectacular Spectacles available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes and Noble booksellers, it’s time for K. Kibbee and I to put our heads together to create Book Two in this adorable series! Book One had the release date pushed back until October 10, 2017, but I can tell you, it’s well worth the wait and I’m only slightly biased.

While Kristine feverishly works on writing Book Two in the series, I have enough to go on to be able to get the cover design under way and boy is it ever!

The drawing has been completed and all parties have agreed upon the design. It took a bit of work to get Theodore just right, but the extra sketching paid off and he turned out perfect once again! I can’t wait to show you all the finished cover, though we are going to be a ways off from that reveal, with the book not being set for publication until next year.

Still, I want to keep you all in the loop about what it is I am doing with my free time, though it is a lot less now that I have a new little munchkin running around the house. We welcomed our daughter, Elizabeth, into the family back in March and having a three-and-a-half month old and a three-and-a-half year old in the house has been a challenge, when it comes to getting any work done, but I am happy to say that I am figuring out when to squeeze my work time in and around life’s other awesomeness. If you want to keep up with me in a more intimate, behind-the-scenes kind of way, you can find me on Instagram as well. Both personal and professional images find their way over there, since it is one of my favorite social media outlets.

image3The cover has been inked in as of last night, and now I am getting back out my Prismacolor pencils and getting ready to begin the long process of coloring in. Since my technique for using colored pencils requires me to use anywhere from four to seven different shades of color in each part of the drawing, the process is a long one, but the beautiful vibrance of color I get in the end, is well worth the effort.

Along with my cover art from Book One and my little rhino beetle to keep me company (thanks to M.G. Leonard, author of Beetle Boy, for making me less-and-less afraid of bugs), it’s back to the illustration board for me. As I await Kristine’s amazing story to read and come up with the internal illustrations for, I will focus on Theodore once more and make his next adventure’s cover just as vibrant and inviting as his first!

On a side note, are there any new videos you would like to see on my Ink & Stitches YouTube Channel in the meantime? What about blog posts? I am always all-ears when it comes to new ideas for posts and videos.

Yay! Can’t wait to see how the cover for the second books turns out. And looking forward to reading the first book and seeing all of the illustrations inside!

I just finished the cover of Book Two today and will be sending that over to the publishers. Let’s just say, the author, K. Kibbee, likes Book Two’s cover even better than Book One’s, which she didn’t think possible. 🙂
