Want Something Artsy & Fun to do with the Kids Today?

Here’s a fun Paper/Yarn DIY project! Making your very own Paper Flit!
While we’re all stuck at home, I thought it would be fun to share an easy art project you can do with your kids.
Today we’ll be making one of the main characters from my upcoming children’s chapter book, WISHWEAVER. Flit is Whimsy’s best friend, and a milkweed wisp. Don’t know what a wisp is? Why not watch my little video about them:
This project has been lovingly tested by my dear friend Jackie, and her boys Milo and Nico.
Now let’s make one of your own!
Here’s what you’re going to need:
- White Yarn
- Paper to print the Seed Head PDF
- Seed Head PDF (Printable below)
- Orange/Yellow colored pencils, pens, crayons, paints, etc. Your choice!
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
- Liquid Glue
I am going to give you both a video and some pictures on how to make the Paper Flit.
First, here’s the video making the Paper/Yarn Flit from start to finish:
Next up are some images to help:
First, let’s make the skirt!
Next, print the Seed Head PDF and color it using your coloring supplies. Make sure to color one head facing either direction. Then cut out the seed heads, and using your glue stick, glue them together with the colored sides facing out.
Next, place a drop of liquid glue at the very top of the skirt and place the base of the seed head into it, holding the yarn around the bottom edge of the skirt for a minute to help set the glue.
Paper Flit is Done!
Here’s Paper Flit with crocheted Flit and Whimsy. Their patterns will be coming out with the launch of the book, September 1. Stay tuned!
